Hogwarts Legacy has a fantastic and vast open world to explore outside of Hogwarts. The following is a list of locations you can find if you've fed your hippogriff properly.
Aranshire
Location: Unknown, north of Hogwarts
This name appears on a sign hanging from a trivia found in Keenbridge during the second gameplay showcase.
Bainburgh
Location: Unknown, south along the coast
This small hamlet grew up around the manor house of a wealthy but eccentric family known as the Bainburghs.
BrocBurrow
Location: Unknown, east of Keenbridge
This name appears on a sign hanging from a trivia found in Keenbridge during the second gameplay showcase.
Cemeteries
Location: North of Hogwarts and west of Hogsmeade
In the ASMR video that was released by Avalanche, near to the Magic Neep we can see a cemetery. There is also a cemetery in the gameplay reveal trailer through which the main character and Nearly-headless Nick are walking/floating. It is unclear at this time whether these two cemeteries are one-and-the-same, but I'm grouping them together regardless for now.
Dark Swamp
Location: Unknown
This location was confirmed via the art book leak on January 20, 2023.
Gringotts
Location: Unknown
We know with absolute certainty that Gringotts will be in Hogwarts Legacy in some capacity. In the gameplay reveal trailer, we saw not only the interior of the bank and the "rollercoaster" to get there, but we also saw a bank guard arrive with Ranrok while Professor Fig and the main character are in one of the vaults. What we do not know for sure is whether this branch of Gringotts will be the same as the one Harry Potter visited on Diagon Alley.
"Highwing Castle"
Location: Unknown
While the actual name of this location has not been announced, it was the area showcased during the extended "Rescue Highwing" trailer released as part of the AutoDesk event on August 3rd, 2022. The castle is transected by either a moat or a stream and the bridge between the two sides of the castle is where the cutscene takes place. Also during that event, several angles of the castle were shown including what appears to be a climbing puzzle that would allow you to bypass the locked gate.
This area can also be seen for two seconds during the Overture to the Unwritten music video at the 3:53 mark.
Hogsfield
Location: Unknown, northwest of Keenbridge
This area is divided into "Upper Hogsfield" and "Lower Hogsfield". This name appears on a sign hanging from a trivia found in Keenbridge during the second gameplay showcase.
During one of the many preview gameplay posts to YouTube from January 18, 2023, a student in the library made mention of how a "first-year from Upper Hogsfield" had trouble with the Sorting Hat. No such place exists in the United Kingdom, so this is a new location added to Harry Potter lore by the game. It is, however, unclear if this location can be visited.
Hogsmeade
Location: North-northeast of Hogwarts
Directly across the Black Lake from Hogwarts is the wizarding villiage of Hogsmeade. While we cover this area in another blog post, this is the place to get all of your school supplies, struddle, and other necessities. It's basically a massive mall that people can live in if they can clean out the mannequins in their basement. Rumors persist that there are tunnels between Hogsmeade and the school that run under the lake.
Keenbridge
Location: South of Hogwarts
Just south of the Black Lake but along the same river the feeds it is a bridge. On the west side of that bridge is a tiny villiage of Keenbridge. The largest construction is a bar with a huge back deck. However, there are also a handful of houses here, a potion stand, a dock, and a nearby cemetery. There is also an old fortification just south from here on the opposite side of the river.
London
Location: Southeast coast of England
London is the capital of the United Kingdom. In 1890, the population was just over five million--approximately 60% of what it is today. The clocktower at Westminster appears at the very end of the cinematic trailer that was released in January 2023. This does NOT indicate that there will be any portion of London that can be explored on foot. London is most likely part of the cutscenes.
A second possible appearance of London in the game is the use of Gringotts in the game. Harry Potter lore specifies that the United Kingdom branch of Gringotts is in Diagon Alley, which is in London. However, that's 1990s lore, so there is no reason why Diagon Alley can't be located someplace else a century earlier. Or there could be a branch location which had closed by the time of Harry Potter. Or they could just be cutscenes, thus there is no walkable Diagon Alley. We won't know for sure until the game comes out.
Unknown Windmill Villiage
Location: Far south of Hogwarts past Keenbridge
There is a small villiage with a windmill due south of Keenbridge in the mountains. It overlooks the same river, though that river is nestled in the canyon far below the buildings. Included in this area are approximately four houses, a water wheel, and a windmill. There are some old occupied ruins on the other side of the canyon.
