We know that there is gear to be had throughout the world. We know that after taking down certain enemies the user will have an opportunity to loot them. It is unknown at this time what types of loot are possible. Certainly potions and minions (like mandrakes) qualify as lootable items. We know that gear can be upgraded at a loom--one of which we saw specifically in the Room of Requirement during the gameplay trailer.
School Uniforms
As it happens, the main character has a unique uniform when compared to other students. If you look at his or her sleeves, you'll see the stripes on the cuffs are unique. There are also Quidditch robes in the game. At this time we do not have confirmation on whether Quidditch is playable, however we know for certain that Quidditch is in the game because in addition to the special gameday robes there's a shop in Hogsmeade called "Quality Quidditch Supplies".

Battle Arenas
While we have no direct confirmation of this in game, code contained within the Hogwarts Legacy.com Web site identified this as a possible deluxe edition bonus pack item. The one mentioned specifically was the "dark arts battel arena"--which implies there must be a "light arts battle arena".
Cosmetic Pack
While we have no direct confirmation of this either, code contained within the Hogwarts Legacy.com Web site identified "Dark Arts Cosmetic Pack" as a bonus item. One would presume it allows you to turn mundane clothing items into estetically-different items with the same stats. During the AutoDesk event on August 3rd, 2022, several file names identified animations as "Dark Arts" animations, meaning that even the movement of an avatar or NPC may be altered by its alignment.
Quest Gear
So far the only quest gear that we know of is the "intro locket", which appears to be given to the main character at the start of the game. This item was confirmed via the art book leak on January 20, 2023.
Skins
Gear Upgrade Option
As discussed earlier, there are cosmetic packs that have been confirmed that alter the appearance (but presumably not the stats) of a gear item. This would probably be the place to go to alter the appearance in such a fashion.
Traits
Gear Upgrade Option
It is unknown at this time what exactly this gear upgrade option can do. The following is a partial list of traits:

Upgrades
Gear Upgrade Option
It is unknown at this time what exactly this gear upgrade option can do or how it differs from "traits".
Wands
Throughout the gameplay reveal trailer, we see about a dozen different types of wand. All of the students appear to have a "standard" wand and occasionally you'll see a witch or wizard sporting something unusual. At this tiem it is unknown if you can re-skin the wand you are currently holding.
